Violence and Harassment Prevention in the Workplace

Basic Certification   $350 + HST
This mandated training course is intended for management and worker members of Joint Health and Safety Committees who wish to become designated as “Certified Members” under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Participants will learn how workplace hazards can be effectively recognized, assessed and controlled - and how to monitor occupational health and industrial hygiene at a basic level in order to facilitate improvements in workplace health and safety. Basic Certification course participants must pass a test at the conclusion to receive Certification status.

Basic Certification II - Hazard Specific Training   $65 per module + HST
This is the next step in the certification process. PPHSA delivers a series of industry specific half-day training modules to provide certified members with the knowledge and skills to recognize, assess and control the most prevalent hazards in their workplaces. JHSC members can customize their training to fit the hazard training needs identified in their individual workplaces. PPHSA's suite of modules are delivered as follows:

Due Diligence and IRS: A Supervisor’s Guide   $55 + HST
It can be a daunting task for many organizations to develop and maintain an effective occupational health and safety system that protects workers, complies with legislation and limits exposure to criminal and civil liability. Supervisors have a key role to play in this process. They also have very specific legal duties and responsibilities for workplace health and safety. This half-day program has been designed to make supervisors aware of their responsibilities regarding due diligence and the internal responsibility system and to provide them with information on how to exercise those responsibilities effectively.

Incident Causation & Analysis   $110 + HST
Effective investigations are opportunities to improve your health and safety system and avoid repeating similar events in the future. This course provides a basic understanding of incident investigation in an interactive approach using participant's own knowledge and experience. Participants will learn the role of effective investigations in safety management and learn how to gather information, analyze data and make useful recommendations for change.

Joint Health & Safety Committee Effectiveness w/Planned Workplace Inspection   $130 + HST
As the internal auditing team of your organization's health and safety system, JHSC members have the opportunity to positively impact health and safety effectiveness. This course provides JHSC members with understanding their function and legal duties so they may perform their responsibilities effectively. One of the most pro-active health and safety activities your committee will undertake is planned workplace inspections. These inspections uncover potential losses and accidents before they happen, saving you and your employees from needless pain, suffering and associated costs.

Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Prevention Workshop   $170 + HST
MSD prevention is a top priority of the Ministry of Labour and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board. Left unaddressed, MSDs threaten both worker health and safety and the province's economic performance. Preventing MSDs can help protect employees, reduce costs, boost productivity and improve product quality. This course provides a practical approach to assessing risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace. This module provides a thorough understanding of what MSDs are and what MSD hazards look like. The module will review primary hazards of force, posture and repetition as well as secondary hazards such as vibration, contact stress and work methods. Participants will review the province's MSD Prevention Framework and learn to apply identification, assessment and control methods and tools through practical exercises.

This course provides the foundation for establishing an effective occupational health and safety system, with defined structures for responsibility and accountability throughout the organization.

Risk Assessment for Machine Safety   $120 + HST
PPHSA's new Risk Assessment for Machine Safety program provides simple but effective strategies for recognizing, assessing and eliminating or controlling risk in the workplace. A mix of in-class training and interactive learning exercises have participants conducting hands-on risk assessments and practicing how to use several assessment tools - including nomographs, risk tables and charts.

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, supervisors have very specific health and safety responsibilities. This program explains what is expected of supervisors and provides a basis for meeting those responsibilities and today's leadership challenges effectively.

Violence and Harassment Prevention in the Workplace   $55 + HST
Changes to Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act as of June 15, 2010, create employer responsibilities for addressing violence, harassment and incidents of domestic violence in the workplace. The revised Act requires employers to develop policies for the prevention of violence and harassment, and to review those policies at least annually.
